About & FAQ
The Triple Crown, or winning three difficult races, is the most difficult achievement in the racing world. And we like to think that the Triple Crown of 10k Exchanges is a pretty big achievement too!
There are three exchanges with a 10k minimum:
-
Five Figure Fanwork Exchange (FFFX,
fffx) is long, with a five-month writing period.
- Heart Attack Exchange (HA,
highadrenalineexchange) is short, with a two-week writing period.
- Fic in a Box (FIAB,
ficinabox) Exchange is funky, with the ability to write more than one work to complete an assignment (more information at the FIAB DW comm once it's established).
To win the Triple Crown, you must participate in all three exchanges by publishing either an assignment, a pinch hit, or an assignment-length treat to each collection before its creator reveals.
Winners will be able to claim their win once the last exchange, FFFX, is over. They will receive fabulous prizes! Prizes include but are not limited to: icons, certificates, knitted creatures, and a raffle ticket to win a fic in any fandom of your choice.
Questions or concerns? We can be contacted here on Dreamwidth or via email at triplecrowncommittee@gmail.com.
Rules
To win the Triple Crown, you must do all three of the following:
- Five Figure Fanwork Exchange (FFFX): publish one 10k gift fic OR two 5k gift fics OR one 10 page comic OR two 5 page comics to the collection before FFFX author reveals (note: if you're making two 5k or 5 page gifts, they need to be for the same recip)
- Fic in a Box (FIAB): publish 10k worth of gift fic OR fic equivalent (art, podfic, interactive fiction, etc) to the FIAB collection before author reveals. This could mean ten 1k treats, or it could mean one 10k assignment, or anything in between.
- Heart Attack Exchange (HA): publish one 10k gift fic OR one 10 page (25 panel) comic to the HA collection before author reveals.
Works submitted for each part of the Triple Crown must be acceptable per that exchange's rules and that mod's best judgement — the challenge is to produce works that satisfy the requirements of an assignment for each exchange, which includes at minimum length/medium and avoiding your recipients' DNWs.
Additionally, this is an event run for free by volunteers for fun to encourage everyone to do their best and create lots of fanworks! To this end, our one additional rule is very simple: don't be an asshole. We expect you to ship and let ship, be civil to your fellow participants, and participate in good faith. We reserve the right to take appropriate measures to ensure that all our participants have a positive experience.
Full Schedule (as of right now!)
Below is a list of all relevant dates that we currently know about. These are subject to change for things like collection opening delays, and the far-future Triple Crown prize awarding part of things is just our best guess. (Also, we will probably not be updating the below schedule literally all the time — check what date it is to see what stage of things we're probably on, and check the comm of individual events for the most up-to-date information!)

FAQ
Do I have to sign up for all three exchanges to qualify?
No, you do not have to be signed up. Your qualifying works can be treats or pinch hits. All qualifying works must still be posted before the author reveals for each exchange, however, even treats!
Do I have to be a writer?
You can be an artist. You can do a 10 page comic (with 25+ panels) for Heart Attack, a 10 page comic or two 5 page comics for FFFX, and a mix of various things for FIAB. Check specific exchange links for details about mediums!
Do combinations of shorter treats count towards the Triple Crown for Heart Attack Exchange?
No; you have to make a single 10k+/10 page+ fanwork and post it to the main HA collection in order to complete that leg of the Triple Crown.
How do I claim my prizes?
The Triple Crown Committee will be tracking all three collections to make sure we know which fics were in before author reveals. All you need to do is participate in the three exchanges as outlined above, and then, when the final exchange (FFFX) is over (in March 2021), submit your wins. We are not yet 100% sure how you will submit your wins, but right now our basic option is to have you comment on a post with links to the works you wrote.
What prizes are there?
Oh, buddy, there's a lot! Right now, all winners will receive:
- an icon
- A certificate
- a small crocheted creature of your choice
- a raffle ticket to potentially win a 10k fic in any fandom of their choosing by thedevilchicken
- other prizes not yet finalized!

the heart attack comm is up now heartattackexchange.dreamwidth.org/ and fic in a box should be up by the end of the week
fic in a box is a bit more funky than the average exchange which is why it's taking a second to get the comm together, but the funkiness makes it more fun too, so it's worth the wait! ;)

(Just as heads-up, in the event it isn't wanted, but the anon comments function of this community is currently off.)

and if you're tempted to do the challenge but you're on the fence about it, you have some time to think it over. since assignment-length treats and pinch hits qualify you for triple crown, the first thing you absolutely *have* to do to qualify is create something assignment-level for fic in a box before author reveals, and FIAB author reveals aren't till mid-November 👍

they still have to be posted before author reveals and they still have to reach the length requirements that an assignment for their exchange would be expected to hit—so like a drabble treat for heart attack wouldn't qualify a person for the triple crown-but hopefully this helps make triple crown more accessible <3 <3 <3

For example in FFFX, you write a 5k fic for Participant A and a 5k fic for Participant B. Or for Fic In a Box, you spread your 10k words across three different people.

So in FFFX, one assignment could be two 5k fics for Participant A, but not one for A and one for B. Regarding FFFX, your two 5k fics have to be the same person to qualify.
However, in Fic in a Box, due to the somewhat more complex system, you can create 10k of stuff spread out over 2+ recipients and still officially qualify for your own 10k worth of gifts, so in that case, you could totally have 3 or more recipients and still qualify for Triple Crown.
Does that help?
